Interrelating the לויה component with the lateral represents varied elements in the מצוות לויה, as in שמיטה ויובל that prohibits לוי from partaking in normal life, in כלי המקדש that makes לוי available, along with all the elements of caring for לויים and their representation of ישראל . Wherever there is breakdown in the entirety of this multiple matrix, which relates to the two levels of time at the end of ויקרא, there is a breakdown in the notion of ישראל as a moving, spreading entity, and it is this מחנה that has defined ישראל through all its existence: שמא תאמר אבד סברן ובטל סיכויין!?

    פקידה as placement, in which the concept of נושא עון, the עם stretched over time which is accomplished through וביום פקד''י – פוקד עון אבות על בנחם, and is expressed in a משכן זימנא that is stretched over זמן, is now introduced spatially in the מחנה which surrounds the משכן. Although this is a brief interval in the history of the nation, it comes to define the nature of development within ארץ ישראל as well. Just as the משכן evoked הר סיני, so did the לויים take center stage, for they represent the לויה of the central idea just as מחנה evokes the various מחנות מלאכים סביב הר סיני. פקידה always is a statement of purpose, a purpose drawn from context and expressed in structure.
